It really is a personal choice, and one that has to do with your budget too. A DJ will be the cheaper way to go by far, as bands tend to be the more expensive option, especially if there are a lot of people involved. But it's completely up to you. DH and I never even looked into bands, so can't give you a recommendation there, but we had LI Sound as our DJ and they were nothing short of spectacular! Good luck

We LOVED our band! Sound Image part of the Faze 4 Orchestras company - they were AMAZING!! Our dance floor was packed the whole night. We wanted a band - we love live music but its all about personal choice.

We had the same problem and went back and forth. We ultimately decided that we really wanted a band after going to a showcase and seeing a cheesy MC with his announcement. We booked with an amazing band who was willing to work with us and be flexible with pieces and prices. We didn't want to spend more than 5k and we didn't!
We love the band that we booked, we saw them play 4 times all across LI and the City at bars. We liked that they are always out playing gigs whenever they don't have a wedding.

I went with a Band... it just depends on your preference.
Most of the bands I looked at were 6,000-7000.

We went with a DJ because I really like hearing the actual song, not someone else trying to do the song. Also, we just got the DJ, no MC, no giveaways or anything like that.
