I am sure there are numerous threads about DJs and pricing but I wanted to start my own to get some new information....
My fiance and I are looking for a DJ for 5.5 hours (cocktail hour and reception). We don't want anything crazy...no lights, not a whole lot of talking, etc. We basically want him/her to play music, do the announcements in the beginning, first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, cutting the cake and the best man/maid of honor speeches. Other than that, no other speaking haha.
I have gotten a quote of $1000 and $1500....However, I have also read and heard that people have paid up to $4000 and as low as $650.
I just wanna get a better understanding of what the prices were and what the service was.

$1,000 to $1,500 sounds about right for what you are looking for. I am booked with body rock. They are doing my ceremony music, cocktail hour and reception. I got an mc, dj, precussionist, lights for approx $3,100.

ours is $1700 for 4 hours DJ/MC combo with 1 hour piano playing during cocktail hour....

im probably going with Tommy tunes... 920$ 5.5 hrs with 2 guys(dj/mc and an asst.) and a few lights.. i thought that was pretty good!

Yeah, the 900 to 1500 price range is about standard for what you are looking for. What brings the cost to different points within that range is mainly if you are having a dj/mc (1 man) or just a dj who also does announcements. Then for ch, if you are interested in just pre-recorded music, meaning nothing live and the dj wouldnt actually be set up in the ch but they are providing the set up for the speakers, etc....most times this is included in their package and sometimes its a cheap add on (ie. theyll offer a 4 hour package or a 5 hour including the ch).

That's a great price. We are paying a little less for 6hrs, 2 guys, lights and that's just because the DJ is a friend of FH. I would jump on that...

CALL VARIETY DJ NOW! We used them and our wedding ROCKED!!!! We had CH music and reception with deluxe lights (not intelligent lighting). We opted out of the DJ favors to save an additional 250. Our total was 1200 and I would've paid MORE - they were that awesome! Totally played everything we wanted and adhered to the do not play list. Dance floor was packed ALL NIGHT! Good luck!

I booked my DJ with The Pros and after a few discounts they offered, it came out to $800 for 5.5 hrs and a second location mini set up (for my ceremony), it's ones guy, and he does the intros and announcements and of course the music.
