So I booked a DJ highly recommended on this site and put a small deposit down in May. Now, I am having second thoughts because I went to a wedding with another DJ that was great. That wedding had an MC too, which I don't know if I can get through the guy I booked. I want to cancel the person I booked and book with the other company. My wedding in 6 months away (forget the date on my avatar). What would you do? I don't care about losing my deposit but I am worried about having to cough up the rest.

Did you sign a contract? What does it say?

Re: DJ problem
You shouldn't have to cough up the rest - most contracts say that you loose the money you gave them (I'd TRIPLE check tho!) but don't owe the rest. They may have a cancelation policy tho. Make sure if you switch that you book the second guy first.
My question is, why don't you ask if your DJ has an MC- any place I've seen has MC's so I don't think that will be your issue- upgrading is almost never a problem. Esp if they are a vendor here- they all seem to have MCs! The were obviously good enough to book in the first place...you should consider the quality of music they offer too.
Good luck.

Re: DJ problem
Look at your contract. I'm sure there is something in there about cancelling. For example, my DJ contract says I can get my deposit back within a certain number of days of booking, and after that it is non-refundable - but that is only the deposit. I believe I have until one month before the wedding to upgrade the package (might be 2 weeks). Check and see, and remember that you booked your DJ for a reason. Whatever the reason was, it is still valid.
