For those of you who want a low key DJ.... are you still going to have lights and all that?
I want my DJ to not talk through everything and scream about everyone getting up to dance...really I only want him to introduce us.... I don't want any group dances (electric slide, chicken dance...) and I don't want any props or smoke or things like that....but what about lights.. I don't know if I should or if I don't do it then will it be lacking?????

Re: DJ question
Yeah, NO CORNY GROUP DANCES
I actually just had the DJ for our e-party on Saturday write in the contract that we don't want Cotton Eye Joe, YMCA, Electric Slide, etc...
As far as the wedding, I think the DJ or band you pick will be important in having a low-key atmosphere. You definitely won't want Joe Big Mouth Crazy Lights to do your wedding if you want something understated.
Maybe do a search or call around to see what kind of low-key elements they can add.

I dont plan on doing the lights, but i havent picked a DJ yet so i would have to see. i just dont want a DJ with anything thatll make it seem like a club and not a wedding

That is what I am worried about...we are having a Saturday night wedding but we are right on the water...the RH is very Hamtpons, high ceilings, white paint, huge windows, huge fireplace....I just don't want to take away from that. I like the idea of asking for low key elements....maybe we could have some lights but not club lights....maybe elegant lights if there is such thing...

Re: DJ question
I was wondering the same thing. I was at first against all lights but the ballroom at the reception is kind of dark so I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea. I just don't want it to look like a club inside of a mansion. Or worse, a sweet sixteen!

Re: DJ question
hahah that is why I am having a band. I cannot take the chance of have an annoying dj. I hate when they talk....come on the dance floor...hand out crap...do group dances....yell...etc. Even the band will have strict instruction not to hand a microphone over to ANYONE unless specified..hahah i can just see the drunkies getting u there.

Re: DJ question
I feel you, on the low key DJ thing. I am the same way, no group dances(although My family may kill me if I don't aleast do 5 minutes of the electric slide), no giveaways, my Planner will annouce us, no talking, no hyping up the crowd.
If you want to do lighting, and if you can afford it, there are many companys that can do lighting for the entire room. The DJ lighting is really disco-y.
So it depends on what kind of look you want the room have.

Re: DJ question
good suggestion.....I think the lighting is perfect as it is at my Rh so I am not even going to mess with it....NO LIGHTS for me!!
