DJ question

For those of you who want a low key DJ.... are you still going to have lights and all that?
I want my DJ to not talk through everything and scream about everyone getting up to dance...really I only want him to introduce us.... I don't want any group dances (electric slide, chicken dance...) and I don't want any props or smoke or things like that....but what about lights.. we are having a Saturday night wedding (on Halloween) but we are right on the water...the RH is very Hamtpons, high ceilings, white paint, huge windows, huge fireplace....I just don't want to take away from that.

I don't know if I should or if I don't do it then will it be lacking?????

I had a low key DJ, I did not want anyone hollering for people to get up and dance etc, and we still did the lighting, we did the give aways too. I dont think it really takes away from the room you are in, our guests still told us how much they loved CBs decor

I would still use the lights to get people motivated.

I hate to sound like the party poop, but my personal opinion is not to use the lights. Think about everything you (and I ) love about Trumpets. It is really such an elegant and classy place... you wouldn't want anything to take away from the beatuful room and setting or change its 'feel'. I am sure everyone will have a ball dancing with or without the lights. But of course that is just my 2 cents!!! I'm sure whatever you choose will be amazing!!!

Frank from FM Entertainment - he does showcases - check him out!

He was amazing and quite laid back. We had lights. We only did one group dance (cha cha slide) because I love it!! I feel like any DJ will work to make it the wedding you want.

A lot of DJ's also offer a mini-lighting package for like $150. Very low key.

We are looking for the same thing as you regarding the DJ (no lights, giveaways, etc). I personally think it's the way to go and keeps the focus on the right things. of course, it's a matter of taste. Everyone is different! I'm using Mike from East End DJ's. I met with him in person. He's low-key, professional, and really knowledgable. he doesn't do giveaways and things like that.

I was of the same feeling as you but DH was not. He wanted the granddaddy of all lighting packages. I was not pleased but I have to tell you, it definitely added something to the party and in the end I was definitely glad that we had it.

My wedding was 2 weeks ago and we had another wedding this past weekend that had no lights or anything. The room they were in also had really high ceilings and was a huge open room. I felt like it was lacking something and later we were all talking and my friends were saying how the lights at our wedding really jazzed up the dance floor. So, I definitely think some lighting definitely is more inviting.

I agree. I booked Frank for my wedding. His showcase was awesome and his prices are unbeatable. I feel the same way as you. I don't want someone on the mic all night, so I'm not having an MC.

Re: DJ question

I was wondering the same thing about teh lights. FH's sister just ahd her wedding and used the same DJ Im using and the lights actually didn't take away from teh room. You barely noticed them. So im kinda over it now. i ahd been very insistant about only having them be white, btu the color wasn't that bad- ill give in to FH on this one.
