I have gone to see 2 different DJ's with my mom, FH and FIL's. The first was Starlight Express and while I liked them I felt kind of like a deer in headlights! The next one we all went to and while I don't remember the name, none of cared for him. He didn't even have a price list for me!!!
So therefore while I am still a deer I need to get rid of the headlights and figure out what I should be asking the next two DJ's. We know we want a Dj and an MC, but past that we're lost. Any suggestions?

Re: DJ Questions
I haven't picked my DJ yet but so far I can tell it's going to be VERY difficult. Everyone we've met with so far has been super nice so I'm really confused but here's who I've seen so far...
High Energy DJ - The guy Ralph was SO nice and he gave us the best price BY FAR. Only thing is that he works out of his house which FH didn't like for some reason, but to be honest I think we're kinda leaning towards him cuz his price was SO reasonable.
Tommy's Tunes - Also extremely nice if you can get past the Jamie Lynn Sigler connection...The guy we met with mentioned that he did their wedding like 4 times, lol. It was fine though, they're obviously very proud of that! Anyway, they also seemed very accomodating but they were more expensive.
I'm meeting with Absolut Entertainment this week so I'll post after. I've had like a million people reccommmend him to me. I have also heard a lot of good things about Castle Entertainment lately too. I'm just not making an appointment because I am a terrible decision maker and I KNOW it will confuse the hell out of me! Anyway, good luck!

You should really contact Frank the owner of FM Entertainment. He is so nice, talented and his prices are great. He will even put on your own private showcase (in Nassau or Suffolk) for you to preview his work. Myself and many others booked him on the spot. FM me if you want any further info.

Re: DJ Questions
we used FM Entertainment for our wedding. I highly recommend using them!
Here are some questions I asked when I was DJ shopping:
1) Who specifically will be my dj and assistants - if this is important have them write the names of everyone in there
2) how many will there be
3) are you licensed/insured
4) HOW do you replace my dj or musician if they are sick or there is an emergency which makes it impossible for them to be there
5) What time they will arrive to set up
6) How long will they play
7) Will there be breaks? How long? It is horrible to go to a wedding where the entertainment takes long breaks -
8) what equiptment will they bring with them - sound system, lights, or whatever it is
9) Overtime - get it in writing how much and IF you have an option to go overtime - sometimes people are having so much fun and weddings go into overtime - you want to know what it will run you IF you chose to do this - get the optional price in your contract
10) what they will wear
11) who will be the MC or if you will have one
12) if they say that you or your hall does not need to provide them with anything (extra electrical cords etc) put that in - make sure you ask if there is anything that they need that might or might not be at the hall that they will need
13) cocktail music? Will they provide it - what will they provide - for how long will they provide it
14) Is gratuity included if it is put that in there (most do not but some do)
AHHHHHH on ANY contract you guys sign - BIGGIE - many places offer NO refund if you have to cancel or change the date for any reason - get it in the contract - what you get back if you cancel, or reschedule
15) what form do they accept payments in - make sure you have in there if they accept credit cards if you plan to pay that way - when each payment is due etc -
There are always more things this is a start

Re: DJ Questions
We went with Tommy Tunes and honestly that was the only DJ we went to see. I have seen them at weddings before and showcases. They know how to do their job and then some. Everyone is always on the dance floor all night when I see them playing.

Re: DJ Questions
Other questions:
What do they do if their equipment is damaged during the reception- can they replace lights/etc. if needed?
What is the mc's style- does he/she talk alot/sing along with the music/or just let the music play without interruption
How long has the mc been doing weddings? Are there any tapes I can see of the mc?
Does the company do specifically weddings or are they more popular for other events?

I'm with Joyce! I did the exact same thing. He was great! He's not all about the extras. He's all about the music and getting people dancing. He has all the extras if you want them. I would definintely check him out and his prices are very reasonable!

Nic: with all the good words we are putting in for Frankie boy, he should give us something extra.

Re: DJ Questions
Tommys tunes in selden is amazing. Theyre great. My mom used them for her wedding (well her 2nd one) and she also used them for her friends suprise 40th and me and my step dad used them for my moms suprise 40th and they guys are hysterical and they play good music, none of that crazy crap.
Definitely check them out. Theyre located on middle country road in selden.
And if you go to vendors they're on this site.
