DJ Time Dilemma

DJ Time Dilemma

Ok ladies, I'm going back and forth on the DJ time and I can use some input.

My ceremony is outside at 4pm. As of right now I have the DJ starting at 3:30 so music can be played while guests are arriving. The Reception starts immediately following the ceremony and is only steps away from the beach.

We have the reception location until it closes at midnight. I have scheduled the DJ for 5 hours and it now occurs to me that that means he will stop playing at 8:30 at which point we would then switch over to the restaurants sound system and music. I'm thinking this is way to early to end the DJ.

So here is the question: Do I have him end at 9:30 or 10:30? With the wedding starting at 4, what do you think I should do?

He told me that during that night if I want him to stay for longer he will, but I would like to have the extra hours paid for in advance if I could. He only takes cash or check.

if it were me, and i had him for 5 hours, i'd start him at 7. you can have the music on the sound system for guests and arriving and for dinner. start the dance party at 7 and go to the end.

Do you know what he will charge you to stay for the extra time? IF it is reasonable I would keep him as long as possible. I would think that if people see him packing up they are going to think the party's over.

ITA! Or get a musician to play from 4-7pm.

But wouldn't the DJ then be setting up while the guests are there? And if it's already set up then it's strange to have an empty booth there.

I think you should have the DJ as long as possible. I think once the DJ goes a lot of people will also, they'll think the party's over.

Those are both great ideas...I don't know about you but I think that how the wedding ends really leaves a lasting impression with your guests.

i totally agree!!!!!!!!!, start the DJ later, and use the stereo system for the guests arrival and dinner

Thanks ladies! Unfortunately I can't not have the DJ for the ceremony because he is the one supplying the sound system (we're getting married on the beach). He has the equipment we need not only for the music, but for the mic for the officiant. So I have to have him start playing at 3:30.

I just couldn't determine if 10:30 would be too long or not. I don't think it would be, I think we'll still be partying away, but who knows...you know?
