DJ vs. Band

I am undecided between either a DJ or band, however I am on a budget. And wanted to know what quotes you girls have gotten so I have something to compare. Thanks.

My fiance and I are going to have a DJ. We don't know who yet, but we are working on it.

I felt that a band was too risky. My friend got married like 2 years ago and had a band. I went with her to showcases and they were amazing. However, at her wedding they were definitely not worth their price tag. I would just hate to be disappointed after laying out so much money.

I hope for her sake that she felt it was worth the money!

I've been to weddings with a band and thought it was AWESOME! But, I couldn't touch that with a ten-foot pole and it didn't strike me as something suitable for my small, daytime wedding. So, other than the prices, there are aspects that can help drive your decision as well. Did that help at all or just confuse you more?!? Sorry if it's the latter!

Keep in mind you can hire a DJ with Live pieces Ie: a Sax player, a pianist, a live singer etc

I am going with a DJ. I've been to wedding with bands and I think the band has to be exceptional for it to work and I just don't have the kind of budget for that. I think a DJ pleases most at a much more reasonable cost.

Love DJ. I have been to so many weddings that have Bands and for the most part DH, our friends, and I need to be really drunk before we dance to the music. JMO

We went with FM Entertainment. They were great!

I'm having a DJ. I like the idea of live music, but it scares me just a little bit. We're having people from ages 1-90 at our party, and I just feel like the DJ is more versatile and able to cater to the musical likings more so. I'm also paranoid and wonder what happens if one of the band members has a sore throat or something that day. At least the music is pre-recorded with a DJ.

Personally I have found that people dance more with a DJ. JMO though I know I am more comfotable dancing to a DJ and not as much with a band. I have been to wedding where bands are great, and others where the band was almost overwhelming and took away from the bride and groom. Again this is JMO it is really just a personal preference

I booked with Tommy Tunes! If you go with a DJ i highly reccomend meeting with them they are great and reasonably priced. They negotiate too!

i think bands r great..but we wanted a dj just for the reason there are songs that we wanted played that a band cant do..didnt want to be restricted

My band Code Bleu does EVERYTHING, from Frank Sinatra, to Andrea Bocelli, to Christina Aguilera, to Outkast, to the Beatles, to Billy Joel... literally anything and everything and they sound like the original (and better). and I cannot say enough great things about them - they are just fabulous. I HIGHLY recommend them. They come in 8+ pieces - I am getting the 10 piece band.

Re: DJ vs. Band

I'm actually having both. I think weddings need a good band, but we are having a dj for some of the songs that the band can't play, like some of the latest stuff. And because most of my guest list is family and a little older than me and fh, they will really like the band.

FH and I knew that we wanted a band no matter how much the cost was. We knew it would be really expensive, but a good DJ can be expensive too. We also don't like rap, pop or hip hop, so it wasn't an issue if a band couldn't play certain songs we wanted.
