Okay, so I have been thinking a lot lately about DJ vs wedding band. I can see all options but wanted to know what you all thought and if there were some good local vendors of either you could recommend?

This was a huge debate for me and this is my conclusion (as of this week )- I have decided that I really want a band. I think that it is so personal. I was originally going to go with a DJ, but I knew that I was only doing it because it was cheaper and I would've regretted it.
I'm going to see a band that I love (Live*Wire*NY) on Thursday, May 26th in NYC... check out their website, they're great!

I think there are pros and cons to both. Ultimately you would have to decide what you want to spend the most money on for your wedding. Bands are expensive!
Entertainment was at the top of the list for FH and I plus I wanted the live music aspect (when else when I hire a band for a party? Never!)
The downside is I could have gotten all the works with a DJ and still had money left over. But I can hire a DJ any time and IMO a band gives a more sophisticated feel.

We loved the idea of a band but the deciding factor for us was that the band can't play specific versions of songs, and they might not know everything we want played.

Isn't your venue not in NY? Just curious why you are looking for local vendors on Long Island?

For me, I always knew that I wanted a band...but bands are more expensive so it totally depends on your budget. I just feel that bands can help liven up the party and it's more interactive.
