DJ/Band Giveaways

Is anyone having their DJ or band give out leis, sombrero's, maracas, etc.? Just wondering if its appropriate for a wedding.

We did a few giveaways and it was a lot of fun. I had a lot of people ask me about it after the wedding -- they thought it was a nice touch. We just did lais and maracas. Oh also, sunglasses for 'Old Time Rock n' Roll'

Our DJ will be doing this, it really aid in gettig people up and participating. Not that I will have a problem with getting my group to dance. The problem will be getting them to leave I think it is a lot of fun.

We did not have our band do giveaways - I think its more a DJ thing. I've had fun with it at other parties but it wasn't the feel I wanted for our wedding.

We're not doing any giveaways. My FI and I don't think it's appropriate at weddings. It takes away the elegance. It's hard to believe that my FI feels like this, because he's such a fun person. I've seen it at plenty of weddings before, and I think it makes it look like a Sweet 16 or something! But that's just our opinion! Most brides do the give-aways, it's just not us!

I am gonna do them, it definetly gets people up and dancing. I have all sorts of options but may pick and choose which ones, like blow up saxaphones and guitars I'm not too crazy about I mean what do you do with them haha.
I am gonna do the maracas, it gives people who arent that comfortable dancing something to do.

I also agree that a wedding is elegant but fun and food are most important. I went to a wedding this past weekend that was elegant and also boring, I would have preferred to be at a fun affair. Do what suits you.

We are doing it as well. The giveaways make for fun pictures and lightens the atmosphere. And if you have kids there, they love it.

we had fun and elegance at our wedding - they're not mutually exclusive.

Our band was amazing and people needed no encouragement to get up dancing - the dance floor was packed all night. They didn't miss the giveaways.

I'm having a DJ and we're not doing giveaways. I don't want that for my wedding.

We did have our DJ do giveaways at our wedding. We had leis, maracas and sunglasses. Everyone had fun with them, and we have an adorable photo of my niece (4yo) and another little girl (3yo) standing side by side with their sunglasses on .. it's priceless!!

Do whatever fits the mood you're trying to set. If you feel the giveaways will take away from your event, skip it .. they won't really be missed. If you think it might be fun to have them, they certainly will be. An instance where I could see giveaways taking away from the 'elegance' is if you're having soft jazz played all night, along with Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and other similar kinds of music. But still, it would be your choice. Just remember, this is your day. No matter what you do, there will be someone who has something to say about something. As the saying goes, 'you can't please all the people,' so make sure to please yourself!
