Is there a huge advantage to having a dj and an mc as oppossed to just having one person be both?

depending on the size of your wedding i would go with 2 people. you dont want to have to have one guy taking care of it all..i mean they are capable but personally think things run alot smoother with a two man team.

Re: DJ/MC v. DJ and MC
DJ/MC: One person working your party MAYBE with someone else as a roadie or helping with lights depending on your particular package. With this their is normally minimal talking and it's important to keep in mind that the person DJ'ing is NOT a main MC. Meaning, the sound of his voice, what he says, and overall feel wouldn't have the same effect as a separate MC.
DJ vs MC: This is what i prefer and some what recommend at all events. If you are looking for someone to be interactive with the crowd and just have a more professional and personal feel towards the party go with 2 separate people.
It really depends on what is important to you, the size of your venue, amount of guests, and how involved you want your MC to be.

I am having b/w 100-125 people...i ask because I am looking at the prices for one dj and there is a $400 dollar difference in price for a seperate MC!

I think you also have to keep your crowd in mind. FH and I hate the idea of someone talking up a storm during the reception...we know we have a party crowd who will make their own good time. An MC just isn't our style.

I agree...you just don't want someone saying every 10seconds 'give up for the new mr and mrs' or just talking....yea you want the mc to get the crowd dancing but i don't need to hear him the whole night.

Now I am confused...I don't want some cheesy guy making cheesy comments during my whole wedding but I want people to dance...i should probably just go to a few dj showcases and see which i prefer

Re: DJ/MC v. DJ and MC
It really depends on your MC and the company.
A good MC will def NOT make cheesy comments during your wedding. When you first meet with the sales person at certain DJ companies they shuold be able to tell you who is available on your date and also show you clips of the MC choices so you can see them in action without having to wait for showcases. Sometimes on their websites clips are available also.

Re: DJ/MC v. DJ and MC
I am actually using phil from after hours as my dj/mc....i didn't want to have a second person in ppl's faces and if they are just there to make announcements, there is no reason that one person can't do it....and i have heard great things about phil even when its just him by himself
it all depends on what you want....

Re: DJ/MC v. DJ and MC
money wise one for both is cheaper. but I think its better to have one mc and one dj so they can each focus on there task.
