Re: DJPill....what is our obsession with old music
Good question. Well first off... I DJed places that required me to play it. I spent six months in Pollyesthers playing disco. I spent over a year at Culture Club on the upper level playing 80s, freestyle, and 90s.
I like the old stuff. I find that occasionally i get a bigger pop from the crowd when I play something that 'brings back memories'. When I do the video at the bar now... its even better.
I think its because our current age genre (I am 30)... grew up in that late 80s... early 90s phase. We can relate to these songs (even if we loved them or hated them). I can play 'Ice Ice Baby' and have a ton of people dancing (no joke).
Don't get me wrong... I also play modern music (a lot of HipHop and Reggae). My current toon to jam to is 'King Of The DanceHall' by Beanie Man. It will probably make its way to KTU soon. I think Party105 is already playing it.
My biggest request right now at the bar is currently Juvenille - Slow Motion. I am not crazy about that song personally... but I deal.
My all-time favorite brand of music is Freestyle. Thats what I jam to when I am not working.

Yeah those were the days. I think Kayel from TKA works for KTU now. He is on their website.
