DJ's and Tax

DJ's and Tax

Some DJ's state they charge tax.Others tell you they won't charge you. And then there are those that say there is no sales tax in NY on the sale of the disc jockey's services.

I was able to verify this was true in Tennessee through a google search. Does anyone know where I can find specific tax law on this?

Thanks for all the replies. I wasn't able to find the specific tax code for NY but services in general are not taxed unless a tangible good is produced which at that point everything gets taxed.

So if we were to apply this to say a photographer:

Pay them to take pics of you: no tax
Buy pics from them: Tax on the pics and the service
Try to be slick and buy pics from them a week later: Tax on pics and back tax on service since service led to purchase of a tangible good.
