Do any moms here sew?

Could you moms please help me OUT! My FH and I are doing a very small handfasting ceremony a year and a day before our wedding. It will be October 5, 2005, which is a Wensday. (Only ten people, none which are family) Here is the problem, I'm making the dress for this small ceremony, but I'm try to find the right fabric. Next year I plan on using that dress for my reception dress. I'll use the other dress for the wedding ceremony, then to tie in the handfasting ceremony to my wedding day I'll wear the old dress for my reception. Does anyone know a really nice fabric store that doesn't charge an arm and a leg? I also need a REALLY good selection. If anyone has any ideas I could really use the help. Thank you
PS I don't mind going to the city, just give me the name of the store and how to get there.

I am not a mom but clicked on the wrong board and saw your request

I know of a few places in the city that you might have some luck at

---B& J Fabrics, 263 W. 40th St., 212-354-8150

---BMI Industries http://bmifabric.com/
270 West 39th Street - 16th Floor

you may want to call first to see their hours and if they have the type of material you are looknig for.

you can also try the web if you have a specific type of fabric you are looking for (if you FM that to me I may be able to look for you)

good luck

There are lots of fabric stores in the area cited in the previous post. 38 - 40 St. between 7 and 8 Avenues.

You can also try The fabric Mill. It is on the service road of the LIE traveling East off of Exit 47. I had always found the women who work there very helpful. Talk to the ones at the cutting table, not the stock girls on the floor.

Good luck.
