At my friend's wedding, the MOH (Me) and the BM sat on the altar with the couple and the rest of the bridal party (BMs and GM) sat on the side pews while the guests sat in the front pews.
When I get married, my MOH and BM will be seated next to FI and I on the alter while the BMs are seated in the first pew on the left and the GM are seated in the first pew on the right.
I stood for my cousin's 40 minute ceremony and it didn't bother me at all - it goes so FAST!
i would like them to stand so everyone can see them since they will only be wearing these set of clothes for the ceremony (they'll be changing after ceremony). but i also like the idea of having a row of chairs on the side.
I'm not sure what type of wedding ceremony you're having but I once went to a Catholic wedding where the bridal party sat in the first pew until it was time for the vows. Then the priest had them stand up on either side of the altar with the Bride, Groom, MOH, and BM in front of them. The priest then turned his back to the congregation so that everyone could see it unfold. It sounds weird but it was nice to see everyone looking over the couple as they said their vows and probably made for great pictures. It was a huge BP too, 8 BMs, MOH, 8GM, and a BM.
They sit. Usually they will have a place for them in the front row and the MOH and BM will be at the altar with you. They also provide chairs at the altar.
