Do Catholic Priests...? Interfaith question

I know I should just call my church, but before I do I was wondering(this may sound stupid) do Catholic priests perform wedding cermonies outside the church? My FH is Jewish and I am Catholic we are getting married at our reception place on a Sunday.....I know I need to call my priest and ask but I am a little nervous! i don't know why....thank you for any info. you can offer!!

I went throught the same thing - none of the priests would marry us - most of them would not marry off the church premises, by personal choice - its not a rule. There is however a rule that states you cannot marry outdoors

Try Fr Sherman in Selden - friends of our used him

Fr Callan in Point Lookout is marrying us - we havea priest and a rabbi

FM me for numbers if you like

It is my understanding that most - if not all - priests will not marry outside of the church. An alternative, would be to ask a Deacon or some other 'lesser' in the church.

Yes they do, we have a Priest marrying us along with a Cantor at our reception hall. You just have to do a bit of leg work, but you will find one that does. Ask the monseignor at your church, he may have suggestions.

They are allowed to if it is an interfaith ceremony. It is difficult to find one, since Churches have thier own masses on Sunday. I would start with your own parish and if they can't provide one call a few different churches. It was hard work, but I found one.

Also if you already have a rabbi, ask him. He may have someone hat he works with.

I wanted to clarify that I was agreeing with dubliner...it seems to be more of a personal choice than a 'rule'. As Mistyeyed suggested, you'll probably have a lot of legwork to do...or maybe you could contact your FHs rabbi and see if he has a priest that he workd with for interfaith ceremonies.

Re: Do Catholic Priests...? Interfaith question

For those having problems - Monsignor Donald Beekman of Oyster Bay is the Interfaith priest for LI (Or maybe just nassau). He's a really nice man

Also - Rockville Center runs interfaith Precana - its a 2 day course run in Kellenburg HS in Uniondale
