do coffee makers use a lot of electricity?

do coffee makers use a lot of electricity?

we got a new coffee maker/cappucino/expresso machine for xmas from MIL...

but it doesn't have a turn off option (if you leave it on...it stays on)

well I forget to turn it off all the time...and our electricity bill was $30 higher this month!!!

the only other thing I can think of...is that we had guests for a week...

I don't think so. I read somewhere that if you leave your computer on all day/night, it costs about $16 a month for electricity, so I can't believe that a coffee pot would use more electricity than a computer, especially because all it's doing is keeping the clock running.

Not positive, though...

Any appliance that creates heat by electricty (coffee makers, space heaters, hair dryers, etc.) definitely makes a big impact on your bill if you use it a lot.

This is good to know...my coffee pot does turn off automatically though after being on for 2 hours. Which is good, because I forget to turn it off too.

I was just thinking about this again (slow day at work...) and now I'm confused:
if you put water in the tank of a coffee pot that is plugged in - that is, not actually in the act of brewing coffee, but merely plugged into the socket - does the water get warm?
I have to try this some time to see! (Yes, I'm a dork.)
