Do I get a coordinated set or 'best of breed' items?
Okay girls here is my dilemna. I am going to register next weekend and have been doing all of my research. Consumer Reports has some info on certain product and amazon.com and babycenter.com has 'real world' parent feedback. Anyway do I get a swing, pack&play etc.. all in one 'theme', even if other pattern/products are getting better reviews? I hate mis-matched stuff all over the house, but..... For instance I the Fisher Price Ocean swing is getting raves, but it doesn't match anything else I like, and I am not a huge fan of the ocean. Thoughts?

I got things based on ratings. The amount of time you have the things out at the same time it didnt make sense to me to get them to match if there was something out there better.

'Best of Breed' You've been in the tech world for TOO LONG!
I wouldn't even worry about coordinating everything. My infant seat/stroller and Pack-n-Play do have the same 'patterns', but that was mostly by accident. I chose the infant seat and stroller purposely to match - that's a no-brainer. But, I chose the Pack-n-Play strictly b/c it was the only one on the market at the time that had the full bassinet - not 1/2 or 1/3 bassinet. This suited my needs better, so I chose it. The swing is totally a different pattern - I chose that b/c I love the little teddy bears, the multiple positions and speeds and volume settings on the music.
So, long story short - choose what you think will suit your (baby's) needs the best. Believe me, there's no way that having everything 'matching' is not going to make it easier to deal w/when there is ALWAYS stuff around the house. JMO.

I wouldn't worry about coordinating at all. Obviously if it fits your criteria and matches, great. LOL Almost everything is navy blue anyway. My friend got the sage colored Grace stroller & carseat (jungle print) and I told her she'll be able to more easily spot it in the crowd at Gymboree classes

only my carriage, infant seat and diaper matched exactly. My pack and play and high chair were very similar and the swing was totally different.

I did the Graco 'cubby bear' theme and it got good ratings and all the other stuff came in the same theme: pack and play, swing, travel stroller and high chair.
