Um.. this is a toughie... Were they close at one point??? Is your FH going as well???

I think I'd be more pissed if my FH was going.

That IS tough - was FMIL friends with her parents, too, or was she just really close to this girl?

Well FMIL told me that she will always think of this girl as her DIL

Why would she say that to you?????

Okay, now that's just wrong. Have you talked to your FH about it? Honestly, I would be more upset if FH was going. I would try and brush off her ridiculous comment, he's marrying you, not her and that's all that matters.

I WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT UP SET ABOUT THAT. THATS NOT SOMETHING YOU SAY TO YOUR SONS FUTURE WIFE.

that comment was rude an unneccessary... but if she wants to go to the wedding that is her business, same as if she wants to mantain a relationship with her, and I dont think you should be pissed or upset about that...

If something were to ever happen to FH and I, I could never imagine completely loosing my relationship with his family too... It obviously wouldn't be the same, but they would still be in my life... his sister is my MOH, not just because she is his sister, but because we are that close... does that make any sense??

I would be upset, esp after making that comment!! But what's important to remember is that your FH is marrying you, so that's what really matters. Don't fret it, just be the best DIL you can be!!

Iwould be upset about that comment she made cuz its like a slap in face to me. As long as FH isn't going then I wouldn't be mad about her going.

Also I know that if anyhting happend between FH and I I would still have contact with his family and its not only becuz we have a child together cuz if our daughter didn't exist I am very close with two of his sisters and they had said a while ago that if we ever ended things they would still stay in touch with me.

Don't let her see that you are upset about this bc that last thing you need is her coming back from the wedding saying how great it ws etc. Act like you dont care. She is probably doing this to annoy you. Remember you are the one you FH picked!

That's a tough one..how long did he date his ex? Were his mother and his ex close? were they friends before her son & the girl dated? regardless of all these questions I think you have a right to be a little upset with the whole situation.

Future MIL going to FH ex girlfriends wedding

Try not to sweat it. Obviously, your FMIL is a real piece of work and she can think of this girl as her DIL all she wants but in the end you WILL be her DIL and the ex won't.

Re: Do I have a right to be pissed?

shes just trying to cause drama by telling you that she still thinks of your fh's ex as her dil.. she is not and she never will be. let her be and if she tries to tell you how beautiful the wedding was, walk away, dont' let her.

i cannot even believe she said that to you - how hurtful a comment.

what does you FH think about this? did you tell him what his mom said to you?

Re: Do I have a right to be pissed?

I am sure there is no real reason to be pissed or annoyed, but I would be. I couldn't explain it properly if I tried.
I would feel like ..get over it, they are not dating anymore- move on. I always disliked it when girls post breakup said..'but I am still so close to his family blah blah blah'. You broke up..goodbye.

I am sure that sounds ultra mean, but its how I feel. That's what happens when things end. There is a grief over the loss of the whole relationship including the families that are involved. Hanging on...is just that..'hanging' on.

I would not waste all of the energy it takes to be mad on this. you MIL seems like a charmer- ignore her and don't let your poison your life or alter your mood.
