Do I have a right to be upset at all?

Do I have a right to be upset at all?

So. FH and I are in Boston for the weekend visiting close friends. We came last year for the same weekend. So basically, two years in a row I got nothing for Vday. He got me a card but he got it with me there at CVS and didn't write anything in it. The friends we are staying with - the husband has a whole thing on the kitchen counter for his wife when she wakes up. I know we are away but is it too much to think maybe he would have planned ahead and brought some chocolates or a stuffed animal and gotten out of bed early to set them up somewhere to surprise me? I know he isn't romantic and he kinda thinks its funny that he hasn't done anything. The other day he told me he is combining my bday and vday and has something huge planned. That's nice, but my birthday is in APRIL! I'm sitting in the living room and there is this whole display on the counter for my friend who isn't up yet. Ughhhh. Thoughts?

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day ladies!

im the worst, bc fh and i dont really celebrate vday-ive always thought it was kinda silly (im not trying to offend anyone!)

on that note, fh got me flowers a book i wanted and a movie i wanted..they were thrown on the table when i came over last night-but these are things he'll get me every once in awhile anyways

to me it's no big deal, but if its something you care about, i understand why you're upset, and he could have done something a lil more

It's still kinda early...maybe he'll suprise you later.

i think its about time you be straight with your fh and tell him that it actually does mean something to you (even if V-day is kinda corny) and that you are a little hurt that he didn't do anything for you. It's hard to drop this on him now, since he thinks he's been getting away with it, and I think you can't be angry about it today, because that will just put a damper on your day and you are visiting people, and its really annoying to be hanging out with a couple who are fighting or upset. But make it known that your b-day gift better be GOOD and you want to exchange for next v-day. did you get anything for him? a good way to make him realize what it means to you might be for you to do something thoughtful for him. JMO. :) GL

i was waiting for someone to say that. i know him, if he was going to surprise me he wouldn't have tried to make a joke out of the card and he wouldnt have said that thing about combining with my bday. he thinks that because we arent at home he doesn;t have to do anything. when i asked him a few days ago what the plans were he was like 'how am i going to get you anything in boston?'

we drove here - he went to college here, he has a car and knows the area, i don;t really understand his logic!

Well I wouldn't get angry about it. Make the best of your weekend and explain to him later how much it would mean to you if you could make Vday a regular gift giving holiday. Let him know how you really feel about your friend getting showered with gifts and how it felt to watch in awwe when you had nothing. He's gotta understand how upsetting that can be. Just do it in the least confrontational way possible. Good Luck.

If it makes you feel any better, at least you're with your FH. Mine went upstate to visit a GM.

FH actually got me a card and ran out to the store to buy me stuff to make breakfast.... and then we got into an argument over why he can never put a damned dish in the sink and now I'm sulking and doing laundry/cleaning... so hey it could be worse
