so its 6 months b4 my wedding - my FH's dad has been in the hospital for the past 3 weeks and probably will be there for another 2-3 - we have been visiting him everyday - we just closed on our co-op a week ago - which was the most stressful thing ever because i fought w/ banks and lawyers almost daily.
now we are trying to get everything done in the place - it was filthy cause it was vacant for almost a year, now we are trying to paint, we need carpets and we are doing this solo cause it seems everyone forgets all the favors that you do for them (mind you FH used to be a carpenter - so everyone remembers his name when something goes wrong in their place) also my FH works a job that starts @ 4:30 am - so we are workign and running all day long and he is running on 3-4 hrs sleep everyday....
so - last night i get in after another long day - and my mother flips out that i am wasting my time w/ the place - i have 6 months to get it organized - why am i painting now?? why am i killing FH??
so my question is - is it ever ok to slap your mom??? my parents dont want me to live w/ him b4 the wedding and she is pulling the guilt card - is she thinking it will change my mind??

Re: do i have the right to be mad?
sometimes people do need a b*tch slap....but maybe in words only.
who wants to get married and then not be able to live together because you didn't put in the work to make the home livable??? She may be having empty nest issues....even if you ahve older siblings who have gone before or you are inthe middle and she didn't react wacky before....each child is different and thus the reaction is different.
reassure her that A-you always be her little girl, B-that you aren't moving in together, but you want it all finished FOR SURE before the wedidng so that your marriage starts off on a happy note and C-that if you and FH want to exhaust yourselves now so that you can have a peaceful beginning to your marriage that it's your call to make, not hers.

If you're old enough, mature enough and responsible enough to decide that you want to get married and buy a co-op together, your mom really has no right to play the guilt card on your for moving in with him a couple of months before the wedding. If you don't get it ready now, when are you supposed to get it done? Will she get it ready for you?
You have every right to be mad.

Oh dont listen to her. Im sure your FH is just as excited to get his home in order! I planned my wedding in 4 months by myself. No need for FH and Ive also painted my place by myself. So tell your mom you can do it by yourself... its just that FH WANTS to help.
My mom seems to not have a filter on her mouth either. She just talks and talks.. o.k. actually nags and nags.. Ive just learned to just brush it off.
