you could also do nothing. Which is what I am doing.
The only reason I suggest having something to hold the envelopes is b/c of the horror stories people tell about having envelopes stolen. Sometimes 1 or 2 envelopes also get misplaced. Unless you have someone who will watch the envelopes the entire time, then I'd get something to put them in. People came up to my parents, DH and me throughout the cocktail hour and reception to give us gifts. It was nice to be able to put the cards in our photo box after we got them.

oh no, I mean nothing as in nothing to 'display' them in. I don't suggest you leave them lying all over the room - of course. But you can just hand them off to mom, dad, uncle Bob, Granny, who ever - and they can put the cards in their pocket, purse, beehive, suitcase, garbage bag, etc.
basically just not making something for the sole purpose of displaying cards.

We had a plain silk bag with a drawstring closure.
Guests handed cards to me, my parents, DH - I ended up handing them off to my DOC or parents. It's good to have a little SOMETHING that keeps them together.

Re: Do I have to do an envelope box?
My dad is a carpenter so I am going to ask him to make me a small box that I can keep under the sweetheart table. Nothing to display, but it will be secure so I don't have to worry about envelopes getting stolen or lost.
I just realized that does not help for the people who might actually brings gifts. Okay I have to think this through a little more

I am a old-fashioned kind of gal and I think I am just going with the satin bag.
