I know the BM and MOH gives the toast at most weddings or least one of them does but does the bride and groom have to? FH is not big on public speeches AT ALL. I don't mind so much especially when I know everyone but is it necessary?

I have never been to a wedding where the bride and/or groom give a speech. As long as you make your rounds to all the tables to thank everyone for coming, it is not necessary to give a speech.

i think its more expected for you to say some words of thanks to your BP/fam/close friends at teh rehearsal dinner. and at least then its a small crowd :)

Ok thanks ladies. If I did all I was going to sat was thanks for coming out blah blah and enjoy the rest of the evening. Nice and short but I probably won't bother since I'm making my rounds during CH anyway.

nope not at the wedding. i agree it would be nice at the rehearsal dinner...but not like a formal speech....just say thanks for coming and everything...

we did. towards the end--while cake was being served. DH and i got up and just thanked everyone for coming and being there for us. we paid for the wedding ourselves and it was a 2 year journey...so we just wanted to say 'thanks for being here!'
i don't think you have to--but a lot of guests said it was nice. plus it was kind of cool adressing everyone together like that as hubby and wife
