The bassinet is mainly good if you are planning on breastfeeding since she can be in the same room as you. What you can do is register for a pack n play that already has a bassinet option.

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
I've heard that the reason for a bassinet is that it's smaller and the baby feels more secure in it than in a big crib.
With that being said, Cassidy was in her cradle for only about 4 weeks.
I certainly don't think it's a 'necessity'

I did not have a bassinet. We set up his crib in our bedroom and he was fine!

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
I want one because I plan to breast feed and it will be nice to have the baby in the room next to me. Our nursery is on the other side of the hallway and I don't think I will want the baby that far away at first but it's probably not a necessity for all.

I kept Molly in our room, in a bassinet, for 5 months. I loved that time and often think back on it.

Me too. I loved having Kiera in the bedroom with us. It was great for BF in the first couple of months. I also heard that it's better than a crib when they are younger because of the closeness.

Kevin's still in his bassinett too - makes late night feedings mmuch easier. He took awhile to sleep longer stretchs at night and has been a very fussy baby so it is very nice to have him sleeping right next to me.

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
At first I said I was not going to get one, and that the baby would just sleep in his crib from night one....NOT. I made DH go buy a bassinet afterthe first couple of night - it is so much more convenient, plus the crib seemed so HUGE.

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
I had Brooke in a cradle in our room for three months. It was nice to have her close when she would wake up in the middle of the night. She transitioned easily to her crib.
I also heard they like the closeness of the smaller bassinet/cradle, but do not believe it is a necessity. Whatever works best for you.

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
Sarah has slept in her crib in her own room since she came home. Occasionally during the day she'll nap in the bassinet part of her Pack & Play in the den, but she sleeps the best in her crib.

I don't have room for a bassinet, so I didn't get one for myself. I hope the crib will be fine!

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
If you registered for a play yard they usually come with the bassinet...so if you decided to not get the bassinet and change your mind later on....you should be able to use the one that attaches to the play yard...this was my orginal plan....until I found the same graco bassinet that they sell at Babies R Us for 129.00 at BJ's for 59.99.

Re: Do I have to have a bassinet?
I noticed that my cousin got a bassinet and she only used it for a few weeks and then he went right into the crib...so I just didn't see the point. He out grew it so fast.

My aunt just had a little boy on Friday and they live in the same building so she's using it!
