We're getting married at the RH and I think the ceremony is going to last all of 30 minutes (if that). Do I really need to have programs? My MOH says I definitely do, since otherwise people won't know who everyone is. I feel like if you don't know who people are, just ask them, but maybe some people are shy.
It seems like such a waste of paper to me. I'm not sentimental and wouldn't need to keep them. I don't even know what they'd say on them besides to list the people who are walking down the aisle. Does this really matter?
Thanks for any advice!

I'll be getting married at the RH as well. I'm not going to bother. It's nice if you really want to be able to give them out but I'm too lazy

We are getting married at the RH too! You definitely don't have to have one. But the purpose is to not only say who everyone is but also to map out your ceremony so people can follow along. It's totally up to you!

Re: Do I have to have programs
I'm getting married at the reception hall and I'm not doing it. For me, I don't see a point in it. It's not like the bridal party won't be introduced when they enter the party.

In my opinion, I think you can spend your money and time on other things...I have never saved a program that I got at a wedding and I just think people will look at them for two seconds and then they are thrown out.. save your money for something else

You dont have to if you dont want to. Im doing them for the sake of having my father's name on something, he has passed.

Re: Do I have to have programs
Very good advice, everyone! Thank you so much!
I think that's very true about everyone being introduced later, and I agree with that.
I completely understand wanting them for people to follow along. I guess if I were doing readings, it would be worthwhile, but we're not even having people read. Since we're indoors and no one should be fanning themselves too much, it should be quick enough no one will be looking at their watches lol.
Daizes, I think that's a wonderful idea to have it as one of the many ways to honor your father at your wedding. That brings up another thing I have to think about, which is how to include my grandmothers and grandfather who have passed. Perhaps instead of a program, I'll work on some kind of memory glass or frame.

I don't think anyone has to do them - I do think it is a nice touch - but if you are getting married at the RH I think it gives you more of a reason not to do them.

Re: Do I have to have programs
If it is stressing you out, don't worry about it. Personally I LOVE them. To me they seem like a personal touch and I like when brides mention things about the people in the wedding (how they know them etc,) or if they have an In Memoriam type of page. I lost my Dad and brother the past few years and the program is my way of honoring them. I don't think they are necessary but I do think if you have the time and can do them (I'm doing my own with Word and printing on plain paper), then I'd do them.

I'm getting married at the RH too, and I want to do them. I'm pricing them out now. I personally want them, because we've taken a lot of time to carefully select the ceremony music and readings. Also I really want t acknowledge our bridal parties and parents. It's totally up to you! If you don't feel like you want or need them, don't do them!
ETA: Our ceremony is also 30 minutes.

That actually brings up a consideration... it's my MOH who is telling me I need to have them. So it does sound like she wants recognition for her hard work and effort towards the wedding, which I do understand.
This is a tough decision, but I think I'm going to wait until I get closer to the wedding to make up my mind about it. I don't even know how many guests we're having so I don't know how big a project programs would be at this point.
