I def think you should tip someone that works for a salon, but what about the people that work for themselves?

Re: Do I have to tip..
I didn't. She works for herself. I am pretty sure you are never supposed to tip owners. I always do tip them / I feel bad not tipping when its an owner and I'm getting my hair cut or something... but I didn't tip for the trial because thats just testing her out, I don't think mandatory, and I am definitely going to give a tip at the wedding. But I already met the make up artist when she did my make up when I was a bm and she knew I was definitely using her. I think if I was testing her out and not definite about it, I would tip then because I wouldn't want to be wasting her time.

What if the person charges $200 for makeup and she works for herself? Still tip?

i would still do it, as a courtesy, plus you dont want her to get pissed and not do your makeup the day of as good as she could have?

Re: Do I have to tip..
I didn't have a makeup trial because the girl who did mine is a friend who's done my makeup before. I did, however, have a hair trial and I didn't tip her. I was already being charged quite a bit just for the trial, so I didn't feel as though giving any extra was necessity. I feel like TRIALS shouldn't be tipped, only the 'actual' stuff - like when you get your nails done, or the REAL hair and/or makeup on the day of. But that's just me.

In total (trial, makeup, hair and day of) it's $550. Would you still tip and if so how much?

Hmmm...does her first name begin with an 'M' and end with an 'IA'? If that is who you are using...I am going to give a very small tip.

Re: Do I have to tip..
I went on two makeup trials, one was free, and one definitely wasn't. I tipped on the free trial, I did not on the other. The trial was 100 though, and day of is 200, and it's an independent artist, so I thought it was acceptable. I will probably still give a tip day of though.
When it's a trial done in a salon where they are not getting the money themselves, I always tip.

Re: Do I have to tip..
coming from a makeup artists standpoint, u should absolutely tip someone who works for themselves...ESPECIALLY if they come to you. If u are going to THEIR house then i guess it's not an absolutely must.. but keep in mind it's still product, time & energy..especially if they're doing the whole nine on u..(lashes, etc..).they have to keep their product line stocked themselves... it doesn't have to be a lot..especially if u are already paying a lot for the trial itself.. but i would throw her a little something extra..just as a courtesy..
that being said, if you are traveling to her & she is an actual business owner, then use your own judgement... my girl spent a LOT of time with me & we 'clicked' instantly..i just loved her - her work & her as a person - so i tipped.. if they are traveling to you(which mine did)& are an independent artist(WAY different than a business owner) then i would definetly tip. hth
