I just started my new job on May 20th. My wedding is on August 2, 2002. Do you think I should invite my bosses (4) and my co-worker? I would think no since I just started but I know everyone would advise me right on here if I should or shouldn't.

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I started a new job a year ago and was just trying to figure this out as well. But I has a lot more people that I work with so I don't like I will. Here are my thoughts- are you in a very small office where everyone is friendly with one other? Do you all go to lunch and do out-of-office activities together? If not then I doubt they except an invite. Also, can you afford to add them? I cannot afford to add 14-16 people with dates so I just cannot add work people. I just think that people that you love should share your day. But if you think it will help your career and you really want these people at your wedding and you can afford them, then go ahead and invite them.

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
Cosidering you just started I would say no. You are stll very new at the job and they probably don't expect an invitation. I don't really have a permanant job (not by my choice) so I didn't have to worry about inviting bosses and co-workers but my FI works with so many people. THis became a problem when sending out invitations because there were many people who were expecting invitations but we couldn't possibly invite everyone. Also there were people that he wanted to invite but that meant inviting other people who would be offended if you invited one but not the other. We invited very few people from his job to avoid this whole thing.

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I work for a small company (under 30 people) and I'm friendly with everybody. I've been working here for 3 years and I have no clue as to where I should draw the line.
I think I will have an 'A' list and a 'B' list. My bosses and the higher ups will be on the 'A' and the people I don't go to lunch with or hang out with after work will be on my 'B'. If I get a lot of 'no' responses, I can then send invitations to the 'B' list.
That's my only solution.

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I have invited both my mgmrs and their wives and 3 of my co-workers (w/o dates) My FI chose not to invite anyone from his company. There were 2 girls getting married before him and they did not invite anyone, so he did not want to be the odd man out inviting co-workers. I think its a personal decision. If you have the space and can afford it, I say do it. If not people will understand.
Happy planning all

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I'm having a bit of the same problem. Since you're so new there, I wouldn't invite them. And they most likely aren't expecting an invite. I'm inviting colleagues that I normally go to lunch/happy hour with on a regular basis. I am not inviting my boss-she's new and kind honestly, I don't care for her. I took an informal poll of recently married colleagues and found that they did not normally invite bosses and invited only close co-workers. Best of luck to you!!

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I've worked at my new job for less than a year now. I am going to invite my boss (who I directly report to) and the vp of the department (he also recommended me for my position.) Although I have become close with many people here, I just can't invite everyone.
I would think if you can, just invite your boss...he/she will probably respond no anyway.

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I think its more of an old fashioned thing to have to invite bosses, but if you are close with people you work with, then invite them. Or think of it this way-are these people that are going to be in your life a few years down the road? Maybe if you get more no's than you thought, you may be able to invite some of them. Of course you have to think of the extra cost too, because we all know how they add up.

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I've been at my job for 2 years and I'm not inviting anyone from work. We are a pretty small group so I would have to invite all my coworkers if I decided to invite any of them and I don't have room for a whole extra table at my wedding for work guests. My invitations go out next month - I'm really hoping there are no hurt feelings when they realize they are not invited. It's not that I wouldn't want to, I just don't have the space...

Re: Do I invite boss and co-workers?
I have had 3 co-workers come up to me - including my boss' boss - and say somthing to the effect of 'I hope I get an invitation to your wedding.' I had originally planned to invite people from my department -- but now, with the names adding up, I think I'm gonna drop them all. It's just too much of a slippery slope to invite some without the others. Plus I would NEVER hang out with any of these people if I wasn't working here.
Unfortunately, the 'politics' of this will be a nightmare. My company is so personality / relationship / brown-nosing / all-boys network driven.
I'm just going to send an email out to everyone in my department and those I'm at all friendly with and say something to the effect of -- We have planned a small wedding that we are financing ourselves at a location that wil seat a limited number of guests. If I was free of financial and space limitations, I would love to extend an invitation to all of you. Unfortunately, my FI and I have had to make some tough decisions and so we have both agreed to limit our guest lists to family and close friends. I hope our decision does not cause anyone offense.
If anyone has any suggestions / revisions / edits please let me know.
Thanks! -dora

That's good. That way you cover all your bases and eveyone knows up front. It's so hard to invite some and not others. You're better off saying that, so there's no hurt feelings.
