Okay, so this photography thing is making me nuts! I've met with some people who only offer one photographer and then I can add a second photographer for an additional fee. Then I met with another who will include 2 photographers, but I've got other concerns about him. Do I need 2 photographers. I have 10 adults (including me and FH) in the bridal party and will have about 185 guests. I'm looking at basic packages with just digital proofs in order to keep the cost down, but I don't want to sacrifice pictures for a few hundred dollars. Opinions please!

I had two photographers and a wedding about your size. One photographer was for traditional shots... the second photographer was for photojournalistic shots... I'm so glad I had 2 because they each shot the wedding from different view points... and if I needed a photog and couldn't find one, there was another one there for me to grab (if that makes sense).
I would check out Spelman Studios... they were AMAZING!

I am also having a wedding about your size, and we are having one photographer with an assistant. I don't believe I need anything more. Unlike some of the girls on this board I really don't think I care too much about pictures lol
I mean, I want our pictures of the bridal party and all of that, but I don't care much about anything else after that. Traditional , normal pics are all I want. It doesn't really matter much to me about anything else. That is just my opinion on that.

I had 2 photographers and 2 videographers and we still missed some key shots. 2 of them were with me from 9AM (getting ready) until 2AM (party was over), and I am so happy that we had all of them. My package included all 4. Also, make sure that no one is just an 'assistant' as opposed to being a professional.

we had two & i am so glad we did think of it this way....while ur main photographer is shooting you in a posed shot, the other is zooming in, snapping candids, and taking shots from a whole 'nother perspective...
i think one is okay if they're a great company, but i was so happy with my photos and having the two of them...

Yes! I definitely recommend this. One photographer cant possibly catch EVERYTHING. A second photographer will maybe see something the other didnt.

Two is better. I hired one with a second photographer. One photographer went to the hotel where my husband and his family were staying and took pictures of them there. The other photographer stayed with me during the pre-wedding preparations.
If I had hired just one, I wouldn't have all of the great shots of my husband, his friends and family before the ceremony.
As it turned out, the main photographer ended up bringing an assistant and their mutual student. The second photographer also brought a student. Therefore, we ended up with five photographers and paid for only two.
The only downside (not a biggie) was that we had to pay to feed all of these additional people.

My head photographer needs an 'assistant' because there is no way that he can hold the light reflector by himself on top of taking pictures. The 'assistant' also fluffed my dress and held my flowers throughout the day.
An assistant is more like a photographer in training, but they still have responsibilites.

We're gonna have 2 photogs & 1 assistant. I think it's important to have 2.. in the morning there's gonna be one with me and the girls and 1 with FH and the guys. Then like Taryn said there's always 2 perspectives for shots during the day. I think it's important for more than one.

I'm still undecided about this issue. You can always tell your guests to take pics and email them all to you-- then you'll def. gets tons of pics from different views!

We had 1 photographer, but looking back now, I wish we had 2. There were some many cool shot, and things going on, I wish we had splurged. Oh well.
