My wedding is 16 months away, but one of my good friends already can't make it because she's a BM in another wedding. We're close enough that I was going to have her do a reading, but not close enough that I'd have her as a BM. Anyway, FH said 'now she doesn't have to send us a gift because we won't invite her,' (typical FH thinking - always about the $$$ first) but I thought we should still invite her anyway because she is a close friend out of courtesy, and who knows what's going to happen in the next 16 months.
Knowing that she can't make it, do we still send the save the date and invitation? I don't want her to feel obligated to send a gift, and she wouldn't be offended by not getting an invite because of the situation, but I still don't feel right not sending something.
Thoughts? Thanks!!!

I would definitely still send the invitation. I sent an invite to someone I know couldn't attend. She was so thrilled to still get it, that she had the invitation engraved onto an album for us.

I would still send an invitation. I have some OOT acquaintances, who I know may not be able to come, but I still am going to send them an invitation, it is a thoughtful gesture none the less.

I would send it - I think she might get offended if you dont send it - its a courtesy thing ... Im inviting ppl to my wedding that I know are not going to go, and not going to give me a gift (some fam members have a history to be that way) but I know it would look bad if I DIDNT invite them .. and not invite them while im inviting their parents and sisters ,etc etc ...

I have family from Poland that I know can't afford to come here for the wedding, but I'm still sending them invites.
JMO, I would send her the invite, cause like you said, alot can happen in 16 months.

I would dif. still send it. you really never know what can happen in 16 months plus you want her to feel wanted. I just know I would still like to get an invite.

we have people that we know aren't going to come but we're still inviting them...its a nice gesture because it just makes them feel that you want them there, whether they can make it or not

I would send it if you have extra invitations, which you probably will. Especially if she can still come to your bridal shower.

I would still send it. Like you said, you never know what will happen over the next 16 months. Also, I think it's courteous. Let's her know you were thinking of her, regardless of the fact she has another wedding.
