Do I tip a DJ who owns his own company? *NM*

NO

You only tip someone who does not own their own company/business. Since all the profits go to the owner, they don't get a tip on top of that. An employee gets a rate/salary for their work, so a tip is just an added bonus for a job well done.

'technically' you`re not supposed to, but we used a few vendors who own their own companies, and even though we weren`t 'supposed' to tip them, we did. We didn`t do it because we felt obligated, we just thought they did good work, and wanted to show our appreciation with a little something. Sure, they`re the owner and they`re getting all the profits, but isn`t it nice when you get that extra pat on the back for a job well done? Do what makes you feel most comfortable.

This has been a hot topic in my family for a few weeks now since myself and another family memeber are getting married around the same time. I didn't think that you had to because the money they would be getting would be pure profit. However a family member told me that she read a book that says you should pay them 15-20% of the total bill. Everyone that I have asked is unsure.

Personally, I don't think it's necessary, but there are a few DJ's that I know pf that have this in their contract - We're using Spin Around Sound, and even though we booked the owner, it states in our contract that we agree to a 10-20% gratutity.
