Good question. Maybe it's an extra donation to the church? My priest is always talking about being frugal in planning the wedding.

I'm not tipping our minister. I was thinking about this the other day. I invited him and his wife to the rehearsal dinner and the reception and they are coming to both, eating, dancing, etc. At my cost pp that's enough of a tip right there... they are getting a nice day out and dinner.

We are paying 300 for the church and 210 for the music, that we are not using, FBIL is doing the music.

We got a letter saying that we needed to bring with us, to the RD, 50$ tip for the priest, and 10$ for each altar boy

Oh My!! They told you to tip the priest? That is unreal!!! I know they say it's customary, but not necessary. If you do invite them to the wedding, then no you do not have to tip.

We paid a huge fee for our church but we still tipped the priest $75 and invited him to the reception (he came).

I don't think you have to tip your officiant.
