Your videographer will be on their feet running around after you all day, so I'd say, yes, you should tip them. However, if they don't give you great service or you feel they don't DESERVE a tip, then no.

Should you tip him the day of or when the video is delivered?

I agree with this, but on the flip side, running around all day is his job. Know what I mean??

Well, PERSONALLY, I would not feel right not tipping someone who performed a service like this for me. While it seems like they are pocketing a lot of the money, the cost of their equipment and the ever-changing technology means that they don't always make money on your wedding. That's just MY take on it. We tipped everyone who provided great service on our wedding day...which was everyone.

I will tip mine when the video comes. I rememebr my brothers wedding he tipped the night of and was so pissed because his video was soooooooooooo bad. When he complained to the company they just apologized and said that it was the videographers first wedding and never refunded any of his money, they just gave him the raw footage copy. Even though he saw clips from other weddings with them, they werent taped from her.

This whole tipping thing is realllllllllyyyyy stressing me out. Michael thinks its kinda crazy, especially if they own their own company. I am so indecisive.

I agree. I plan to tip my videographer and he is the owner but if for some reason I'm not happy then I won't tip.

But how much do you tip? That's a good question too.

I would tip. I always tip a workman at the house, regardless of whether he's the owner or not, so I wouldn't consider this 'service' any different.

ETA: We're not having a videographer, bu plan on tipping the photographer (who is the owner) $50 - $75.

so you dont think that these vendors set their prices with a huge profit margin built in? i really dont believe that an owner is dependent on his tip to make a profit off a wedding.

i don't think i'm cheap, but i really believe this tipping is getting way out of hand... for instance, our band fee includes tax and gratuity, and then it's expected to tip on top of that???
this whole wedding industry... this is their job! i don't get a tip at work 'cuz i'm in healthcare, but it's a service i'm providing too! good healthcare is my job... it's what i'm supposed to do!
should we expect that we pay these people all this money to do a so-so job? i guess i just don't get it....rant over

I don't think you should tip anyone just for doing their job. Doing so stinks...I know because I tipped my hair person and I still regret it. She not only did an OK job (totally different than my trial - huge attitude - unpleasant to be around) but didn't even want to be there.

But if someone does go above and beyond their call of service to make YOUR wedding better - yes, tip - by all means. It's your way of appreciating their going the extra mile.

Case in point: I wanted pictures with my cat the day of my wedding, but my cat gets scared easily and he was hiding. I was fully dressed and no one was really doing anything about it...until my videographer (who owns his company) dropped on both knees and crawled under my bed and scooped up my cat so that I could get a picture with him! He didn't have to, but it made me so happy that he did! He got a tip...and in my opinion, it should have been larger!

We weren't able to get a lot of pictures at my hall because by the time we arrived from the park my guests were arriving and DH and I were so excited we started greeting everyone in the lobby, on the grounds, wherever we would see them! This caused us to run behind schedule...my photographer (also owns his company) decided to stay almost 1/2 hour extra without charging us so that we could take more pictures (outside the hall, in the lobby, just the guys, etc.). He didn't have to and DH and I wouldn't have cared, but the fact that he did made a big difference. Also received a tip...

There were other instances were they were just amazing, but I hope the above two help. I agree that tipping is out of control and sort of expected in the wedding industry, that's a shame. However, I strongly believe in tipping for great service, whether you own the company or not...the person doing the work deserves the tip.

I say tip whoever you think deserves a tip - regardless of them being an owner or not!
