Tough Love vs. Spanking (a psychological conundrum)
Most of America's populace thinks it improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.'
One that I found effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk. They usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our little car ride together.
I've included the photo below of one of my sessions, with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.
You have to understand that this comes from a man who grabs small children (that he knows) by their overalls and swings them around. I have been forewarned by his female friends NOT to put my children in overalls.

Oh Goldi, I love it!! I have a Nine year old going on 30 daughter with an attitude...
I don't have a car, well actually I do. The last car on the N train, dunno how well this would work. Don't need Child services at my door, LMAO
