A few people have said they never got an invitation with the inner envelope having the people's names on it, just the outer. Is this always done?

It does not have to be done. It is all up to you. We did it though.

I have seen it both ways. I think some people do it to clarify who is actually invited.

I'm not going to do it...I just dont see the point IMO.

I was under the impression that you were supposed to fully address the outer envelopes and then just the names on the inner envelope, that's how we did it. I figured that was the most clear way of letting people know exactly who was and wasn't invited.

We did. I don't like putting guest on the outside so my inside would read John Smith and guest.
Just do what's the best for you.

I think it's all a matter of personal taste.
They aren't necessary but I think it added a little something extra to mine - just because of the style I was using.
Up to you!!

Yeah, I have a lot of people that are being invited with guest, and I don't like putting that on outer envelope. Do you usually put Mr. and Mrs. on inner, or first names?

I made the inner exactly like the outer, then added the 'and Guest' if necessary

You can put it anyway you want. For my family & Friends I personalized the insides 'Aunt Mary and Uncle John', etc.

I did the same thing and those where I knew the guest, I put the guest's name on the inner envelope.

Re: Do Inner Envelopes Need to be Addressed?
I addressed the inner envelopes with the peoples first names to make it more personal. Do they need to be addressed- no. I just received and invite to a wedding yesterday and there was nothing written on the inner envelope. So basically, its up to you.
