Im sitting here, about to start a must-take photo list...
And Im wondering... Do they really work?
Some of the ones that have been posted are REALLY long...
Does the photographer stop taking pictures, check off the photos that she's finished and then move on?
Is it better to stick to some CRUCIAL pics you want? and not waste time with 'dress detail', 'groom with best man' since these seem like they would normally be taken?

Re: Do 'Must Take Photo' lists REALLY work??
for posed pics you can do it. Honestly I just find it funny when people give a photojournalistic photographer a 'MUST TAKE' list. Photojournalistic are pictures in the moment, spontaneous things that aren't planned.

My advice to you - give the photographer a list of unusual pictures or list of people you want pictures of. Make a very detailed list for yourself and have your moh or someone keep an eye on the list to make sure you get everything you want. I didnt' do this and I don't have a full length picture of me by myself.
remeber just because you think it is basic it may not be to the photographer

i agree... i think its kind of crazy to give a photojounalistic photographer a list or samples of ' must takes' ... every wedding is going to have a different feel, different details, and, so, different photos... BUT i do think its a good idea to get a list together of posed photos you want to get ( IE ' bride and groom with grooms aunt and uncle from ohio', etc) so that you don't miss any of those...

I don't know if each grouping of people is necessary (trust me...if you're family is anything like mine, noone will let themselves be forgotten)but I'd say that if you are particular about objects (such as dress detail) you should say it...
I didn't think it was necessary and we have no pics of my whole dress hanging, Ceremony accessories (incl. programs), CPs, our RH room all set up, our rings when we're not wearing them and the list goes on....
and I may be nieve but I feel like I can't fault my photographer because I never made a point to say that this stuff was important to me....so IMO in never hurts to be too specific

Photographers are professionals and usually know you want a photograph with your parents or bridesmaids. You can delete all that general stuff. As far as a 'must take' list, I gave one to my photographer to be sure I didnt miss out on a photograph with a certain group of friends, one with my two pregnant friends together, stuff like that, more specific. I just didn't want to look back and have forgotten to take those pics with people who are important. I also send her jpegs of other photos I saw that I liked and she recreated many of them. She would be snapping away and then she would set us up and I would think 'awe, yea, I wanted this shot!' You can't think straight on your wedding day with photos, so its helpful to have someone have a copy of the list. Hope this helps, FM me if you have more questions!

This is SO TRUE. My photographer told me NOT to give him a list & I didn't... Now I am missing a lot of pics I wanted that I thought were 'standard' pictures. On your day you will not rememeber!

i gave my photographers copies of pictures that i wanted duplicated - they kept those on hand. i didn't give a detailed 'must take' list, because i figured they are professionals and do this everyday... but i kind of wish i had.

I'd say make a brief list of pictures that you REALLY want - like if you really really want a full length photo of just you in your gown, etc... just to make sure you get them - but keep it very very short - like 15-20 at the most
Then, give your photographer a list of the people who you really want them to take pictures of - include you and your mom, etc, but also make sure they know about any close friends or special family members, that kind of thing.
Also, this may sound strange, but think about pictures you DON'T necessarily want a lot of - for example, I have a bunch of pictures of my sister and her skanky boyfriend from my engagement party, and now that they've (finally) broken up, that's pretty much all I have of my sister at the party! So, maybe mention things like that, to make sure that you get those shots you want without the extra people in them that you don't want.
Basically, to me, it comes down to this: the photographer, if you've picked a good one, knows his job. He knows what kinds of pictures people generally want, and he knows what to look for. What he DOESN'T know very well are you and your family and your particular dynamics - so those are the specifics you need to provide him with.

Honestly, I don't think it works if you give your photographer a huge list - narrow it down to real must take pictures instead.

I gave my photographer a list of pictures to take with important family members besides my parents and we never did. I forgot, and I guess he did too. I feel really bad about missing out on these pictures. I think more important than a list is to make sure your concious of taking pictures with important family members outside of your immediate family and you make sure it happens.

definitely give a list of family posed pictures. it was one of the best things i did. my sister chose not too and she missed a lot of posed family shots.

Anything can happen on the day of your wedding. I had an issue with another vendor that prevented our photographer from getting shots he needed and we ended up rushed - not the photographer's fault. You have to be flexible.

I think they do I was really specific with the photographer...they took most if not all of our must take list...they did an excellent job of taking lots of pics of my Grandma....and that was really the most important

I think they work.
If you really think about it, we're all different, with different likes and dislikes. What may be important to me may not be important to another bride. Instead of having the photographer play mind reader, I'd rather be sure. If he does not take pics that I requested, I only have him to blame, not myself. JMHO

Re: Do 'Must Take Photo' lists REALLY work??
My one regret with my photographer is NOT giving him a must take list. There are pics that I thought would be standard that I don't have and I regret it.
