How can you monitor people's alcohol consumption. I really don't want people to get drunk.

Nope sorry open bar is open bar and guests should be able to drink as will but if there is a problem with a few then tell the bar tender but you may run into problems later on when the person demands a drink.

I don't think there is any way to limit someone's drinking when there is an open bar. In this case I think it is just better to make sure people have a safe ride home!

You can limit what types of alcohol you have served at the wedding. You can also limit how long you want the bar open. This will help you monitor the situation.

good luck! we had unlimited beer & wine...(no hard liquor) for that very reason...i still had one friend who is a full blown alcoholic get pretty trashed...the best you can do is try and have other guests who are friends with the drinkers try and monitor them

I know how you feel. I have some possible problems I worry about as well. i spoke to my BM about this. Here is what she said:

1. You can shut down the bar during dinner (other than for non-alcoholic beverages)

2. Speak with your bartenders. Tell them specifically to water down drinks. I have a particular problem so I am providing them with pictures of the problems before hand and having my DOC point them out on the day of.

3. Don't inadvertanly encourage drinking with upgrades...i.e. no martini luge, no vodka and caviar station, no passing champagne or other cocktails.

4. Limit the open bar to beer and wine.
