Maybe it is just my Company - but I notice a lot of people walk around with a paper towel or napkin so that they can open doors. I guess I understand why they do it, but I just think it is strange. I mean this in NYC - you are going to pick up germs, dirt, etc. no matter what. Yes-people are gross and don't wash their hands-but I would just feel weird walking around with a paper towel. Then it makes me feel weird that I DON'T do this if I am in front of someone with a napkin-like I am dirty or something because I open the doors freely.
I use hand wipes and anti-bacterial gel at my desk, but I don't know, I was just wondering if my Company just has a bunch of weirdos in it....

Re: Do people in your office do this??
A LOT of people, do this in my office. Some people are just more concerned about germs than others I guess. I notice that a lot of women do it when in the ladies room. After washing their hands, they use a paper towel to turn off the faucet, and then use it to open the door.

Most in my office (including myself) do this in the bathroom...thankfully there are no other doors, but I will say...I walk up from the parking garage through 5 different doors that look NASTY...as soon as I unload my things I go and wash my hands.

Re: Do people in your office do this??
I never opened the door to the ladies room with a paper towel until a few years ago... I saw a woman walk out without washing her hands!!
ever since then, I will not touch that door handle! meanwhile, I am sure I've come in contact with germs 10x worse

Re: Do people in your office do this??
I have noticed that the people who are more cautious and use paper towels or anti bacterial lotion constantly tend to be more likely to get sick. The women in my office who are really nervous about germs also have kids, so I think that has something to do with it.

I am that person sometimes - I have anti baterical hand lotion and wipes but I'm not psycho about using them. They've come in pretty handy.

I don't notice that here. I never do that. Look if one thing doesn't kill me something else will.
I wash my hands after the bathroom, after I eat, after I get home from work and have anti-bacterial stuff on my desk that I use once in a while but I don't get crazy about it.

Oh... you must be talking about me...LOL
I don't touch any door with my hands (I use my sleeves in public), paper towel in the bathroom.
Some people don't wash their hands, sneeze all over their hands, touch their face with their cold sore, etc....
Anyway, I am just trying to limit my 'exposure'.

Re: Do people in your office do this??
some people in my office use the paper towel to open the bathroom door, but then they walk through another door 10 feet away without the paper towel, so chances are, if someone walks out of the bathroom w/o washing their hands, they are also touching the other door with just as many germs. I love anti bacterial!!!!!

they tend to get more sick because they are not allowing their bodies to get immune to some germs.

Re: Do people in your office do this??
i work at the empire state building and a floor will share a few bathrooms, outside the office. i am only there 2 days a week, but i see a lot of people use paper towels for the door and stuff.
i wash my hands, but i dont do the hand towel thing. i dont get sick that often, so i am not concerned about germs so much. i dont use anti bacterial gel, b/c in my opinion that just makes germs stronger and different strains develop. and people wonder why antibiotics dont work like they used to.
