Re: DO SOME HOTELS CHARGE TO...
I contacted the LI Bureau of Tourism to ask about information on hotels. They send you a questionnaire via email that you email back. In that, I put that I did not want quotes from hotels who charge a fee or hold the couple responsible for unblocked rooms. I probably got responses from at least 10 hotels. (I highly recommend doing this - it saves SO much time and energy. I was even able to use it to negotiate with my hotel of choice to lower their rates even more)
SOME hotels will hold you responsible for the unbooked rooms, but this is a rare exception. There is generally no fee at all.
The rooms are usually offered at a reduced rate and are released one month before your wedding.

Re: DO SOME HOTELS CHARGE TO...
i've heard that SOME, a very small % might make you pay the difference if all the rooms in your block don't book. but i would never go with a hotel like that
our OOT hotel just gives a discount and releases rooms that don't book

Yeah, our hotel gives the guests by 10/30 to book their rooms....if they dont book by then they may have to pay a higher rate depending on the hotel and if they are full or not.

Re: DO SOME HOTELS CHARGE TO...
I blocked 25 rooms but had to guarentee 10 rooms. In other words, if only 8 were booked I would've had to pay for the other 2. Normally I wouldn't have agreed to this but I was SURE we would have at LEAST 10 rooms and I really loved the hotel.

Re: DO SOME HOTELS CHARGE TO...
I just called the Marriott in Uniondale right by Nassau Coliseum and I told them I would want to block 15 rooms and they told me that if I did that I would be responsible for 85% ofthe cost if they were not all booked. If you block 10, there is no charge. They also told me the suite was $550. I think that is just crazy and I would rather stay at the Garden City Hotel for that amount.
