i know that if you go below a certain calorie level (1200 or so) that your body goes into starvation mode...BUT if you eat all of those calories in one meal (like breakfast) and just snack on low cal veggies for the rest of the day...does that do anything to you metabolism?

Re: do the amount of meals that you have matter?
From what I've heard and from what I've experienced, it's better to spread your meals out... you should eat 5-6 times a day if not more to keep your metabolism active...

I agree with 5-6 meals a day. If you have it all in one meal your body is going to think it's starving the rest of the day and it will hold on to all of the food your giving it. With 5-6 meals you are more inclined to eat better portions because you really wont be hungry.
I was just asking...b/c DH and I went to a diner this morning...and while I didn't go crazy (about 600 cals or so) I am just so not used to it...so I barely ate until dinner (except celery sticks)
didn't know if I did more damage than I did with the breakfast...

Eating something every two-three hours or so is best. It keeps you blood sugar levels at a more desirable level throughout the day which keeps your energy level up. Also, how else can you get all your nutrients in your day? I eat about 100 grams of protein per day. That is impossible to eat at one sitting! If your eating celery and carrots till dinner, you will slow down you metabloism tremendousely. If you don't eat right and you workout, your body will break down muscle to use for energy, hence lowering you metabloism even more.
I love to eat, so the more often the better! ha,ha
