I think that is fine. You do what you can and feel comfortable with, and that's all that should matter.
Honestly, I'm tiring of these posts. I feel like everyone starts judging you based on what you tip or don't tip, and that shouldn't be the case at all. Not saying I'm annoyed with you for asking the question, just I get annoyed with the answers more often than not.
People are asking for feedback- I do not think anyone is making judgements.
Not blatantly, but I feel like who are we to tell someone they should be spending more money that they may or may not have to spend? I was a waitress and bus for 5 years, and yes, I did live off my tips, and yes, I would get annoyed when some were less than stellar...I take those feelings and memories in to consideration with the wedding, but I would never actually tell someone ELSE that they need to tip their Maitre'D $800/$500/Whatever. When someone posts a list of what they intend to tip, I assume that that's in their comfort range, so I'm not going to say it's too low, because what if that's all they can really afford?
This is JMO. I love this site, and you get great feedback and opinions and oohs and ahhs...but some things I feel should stay more private, and like the how much did you spend on your dress post earlier, this is kind of the same thing...really no ones business but the person doing the tipping.
i have to agree once again

I agree with what you are saying Ali, but the poster was askng for feedback. Its not like people asked her what she was paying and then said she was not paying enough. That being said, I think you are right, people should give what they feel is best for them!

For officiants- if you are getting married at reception hall and they do private stuff, remember that they are pocketing that money. My officiants are charging 600 each for a half hour. I don't think a tip is necessary !

wooah wooah! didnt mean for this to start an argument, i knew asking the question people would give opinions on too high or too low, thats why i asked. While i know that i can do what i can afford id like to see if im somewhere in the area of 'normal' since i have never done this before and dont know where to start. Also, i dont think anyone said we HAVE to tip someone something, they are sharing and giving advice, one part of the site i like most.

I agree - we did not tip our officiant. Don't kill yourself on this topic. Having gone through it, I realize that things change. I was only planning on giving my bridal attendant $50 but she was so amazing I doubled it. Go with your gut, but don't stress yourself out over it.
