Do those diaper pails really work?

Do those diaper pails really work?

Or do they stink? For some reason I remember someone I know complaining about one of them a few years ago.

If you're talking about the Diaper Genie that wraps the diapers into a sausage-like string to dispose my brother swears by it - he thinks it's the best thing ever invented.

Yes, I was wondering if they really work.

I preferred to take out each diaper because I hated changing the bags in the diaper genie.

I think no matter what you need to change the pails and clean them out often. I want the Dekor one.

Is that one supposed to be a really good one?

All of my friends have had a diaper disposal system, and only 1 has liked it.

For me, I'd rather just dispose of each diaper as it comes along, so we got some diaper sacks that I am told by friends are odorless. You put the diaper in, tie it shut and toss it. I'm hoping they work!

I'm hoping everyone with little ones answers this post so I can get lots of opinions.

We have the Diaper Champ and swear by it. No smells emanate from it at all. We change the bag maybe once or twice a week and the best thing is that we can use regular trash bags in it so we don't have to buy special ones. Highly recommend it!

We have one but honestly, I don't see what's so hard about putting the diaper in a scented diaper baggie (100 for $1.29) and tossing it in the trash, we throw the trash out every night. And now that Luke is too wiggly to get changed on the changing table, I certainly am not going to walk a stinky diaper into his room to store it. Bleech!

They do keep the odors contained but I don't think it's necessary IMO

I have the diaper genie. Its ok. It was good in the beginning but now that Emmas diapers are getting bigger (size 3's) not as many fit in it. I Think for containing smells its AWESOME! BUT the refills are annoying and so is emptying it. I couldnt do the regular trash cause some poopy STINKS. If I had to do it again... I would have one still

My opinion? Now that Paul is a 'big boy' we use the diaper genie alot LESS than when he was an infant...even though we've switched to the 'toddler' liners, I find that it doesn't contain the odors as well as I'd hoped. Sometimes, you just HAVE to get that diaper OUT of the house asap!

However - I have no problems or issues with changing the liners or emptying the pail. In fact, we'd empty it every night - it's extremely easy and I've never understood why people complain about its ease of use. I guess some people are just lazy about certain things?

I was jsut thinknig imagine we had separate 'pails' for anything that 'stinkies' in the garbage? (onions, any fish or seafood, etc etc). Any garbage is thrown out daily. I just dont see the purpose of getting all these contraptions for 'garbage'!

Sorry, I don't mean to but in on your conversation (no pun intended) because I have never used one, but it reminded me of the time I was shopping for a baby shower present in BRU and was waiting in the customer service line to return something, and the couple in front of me was returning thier diaper genie because it wouldn't work. So the girl behind the counter asked what was wrong, and the guy goes, 'here, let me show you.' He opens it up and there are dirty diapers in it!! He was trying to return it with dirty diapers in it. Everyone on line was just laughing at the poor couple!! Moral of the story - they weren't using it right!!

I, too, get the scented baggies.. For $1 at the dollar store.. and find it easier.. WHen Alex was younger and could be changed on the changing table, I used the Diaper Genie, but HATED changing the bags... Replacing a new one wasnt bad, but changing them.. I waited till Brian was home!!!

Hated it!! It does start to stick after a while. And sometimes the bags leaked.

we use the diaper champ and it is GREAT!!!
and you dont have to buy special refilss- we use regular garbage bags...empty it 2-3x a week...no problems...and it is just a 1x expense.
