Ok, we are back and forth between a wedding in NY where all of our family is or in FL, where we live and everyone would have to fly...
If we have folks fly in to FL, are we responsible for paying their hotel bill?
Vice versa if we have it in NY, do we pay for those few out of town guests we might have?

Traditionally the brides family is supposed to pay to put OOT guests up, but no one does that. If you do it in Florida just have someplace for both of your parents and any brothers or sisters to stay, even if it's at your own house. Let everyone else fend for themselves, though you should block rooms for them, probably at 2 places with different amenities and prices. I have my aunt and uncle and one cousin flying in for my wedding and my parents are paying for their hotel the night of the wedding and they'll stay at their house the rest of the time.

No, you don't have to pay for OOT. I'm not! You can be nice by getting them a nice rate that might be cheaper but I wouldn't pay for the stay.

You don't pay for out of town guests either way unless you plan that to be the gift to your parents for helping with the wedding or something like that.
Sounds like it would be less expensive for everyone around for you to have your wedding in NY.

I am getting married over Thanksgiving weekend and even then we are not paying for our OOT guests I think that regardless of where you get married, you will have people coming in from all over. Like someone mentioned above, maybe paying for your parents room as a gift could be OK or even rent a house where they can all stay for less than a hotel. I recently went to a wedding in California. We just made the trip into a little vacation!

we blocked off rooms for the OOT guests and got them a discounted rate... but we are not paying for them... don't feel you have to...

My entire family is here in NY and my sister who lives in Fl had her wedding there.
We paid for everything and did not expect her to pay at all.
If people cant afford it they wont go.

I live in California where everything is much cheaper but I am still getting married in NY due to so many relatives. My close friends, boss and others are flying to NY and putting themselves up for the wedding. No one complained about the cost.
