Do we really have to have a rehearsal dinner?

Do we really have to have a rehearsal dinner?

This wedding is out of control. We're paying for everything and no one has offered to pay for the Rehearsal dinner. We just don't have it in our budget to pay for another thing.
I'm trying to save money not spend more.

Is it out of the question to have a couple of trays of food at the house instead of taking them all out.
We have 8 BM and 8 ushers, all their spouses, our parents and us. (At least 40people)

I didn't have one and I didn't think twice about it. Do what you can afford and what you think is right.

i was going to suggest that you have a cocktail party. maybe with some appetizers. my FH werent going to have one either, (my FH is paying for almost the entire wedding), thats why we were thinking of doing the cocktail party thing. BUT last minute, he surprised me - i have to tell you that i almost wish we were doing something more low-key!

my point was that i think what ever you do will be great! just as long as your BP and family is there!

!!That's what I wanted to do since everything from my wedding is also out of control! But that didn't happen. Do whatever is best for you!!! It will be more intimate and private I think if you did it that way!

You don't have to do anything you don't want to...You are paying for it, you call the shots...
I like the idea of having a gathering at home!!

I think a cas dinner party at home is great.. It is so initimate and casual- you'll really get to hang out with everyone- instead of worrying about your bar tab at your RD restaurant (like I'll probably be doing).
