The bank took out taxes for the next tax period that is what they did for us, and we have to reapply for STAR. I guess the extra $$ will go into escrow........ We are still confused on the STAR issue but are going to reapply for it even if it stays I figure it would not hurt to reapply for next years STAR. We had Basic STAR and are going to be getting basic STAR back aagin. It just stinks we have to wait a whole year for it. Our taxes are almost 10,000!!!!!

I work at a title company and sometimes we have to restore the taxes. However, it depends on the municipality. What county is the property in and what township?

We live in Nassau . I changed the title on the house, it was my parents house, and I bought out my sister for her half of the house, my parents have passed away. Do I have to refile for STAR?

The house is in Malverne. Taxes are so ridiculous. Our taxes without anything are $8900 and we have no property and the school district is not so great. I don't get it

Is it a STAR, veterans or senior citizens exemption?

so then STAR is not reflected in our mortgage payment for a year then? We are paying 10,000 in taxes! I know we are eligibale for Basic STAR that will save us $619.00. I am defianately going to grieve our taxes ..................

Veterans and Senior Exemptions = date of conveyance (or date of death if title is coming through an estate).
I don't believe that they restore the STAR. However, you will have to re-apply for it because it isn't in your name.
That also means that you might get a bill for the restored factor if you closed in the middle of a tax period. However, look at your closing papers. Most of the time the attorneys know and make an adjustment at the table.
And sometimes they county forgets to restore them. You just have to keep your eye out for it and remember that they do have a couple of years to do it.
