Do you consider this to be making a decent living?
If someone brings home between $1200-$1500 a week after taxes is that considered making a decent living?

Um, yes. That's about $78K/yr AFTER taxes. Gross that must be around $100K/yr.

Yes, that is certainly within what I would consider a decent living.

I would say yes, but it would depend on the age of the person, how much is going to retirement, how many people the money is supporting. DH and I, while we don't make that much alone, make more than that combined, so for the two of us right now that probably wouldn't be enough to support our loans, car payments, our contributions to our retirement, etc. But for one of us that would be fine.
No we don't have any car payments.. DH does not believe in that and paid for all his cars in full. Thats also not including the annuity that gets set aside automatically every week ( approx $500 a week)
The reason I am asking is b/c I have been asking DH to change jobs. He feels like right now he makes a good amount of money ( and gets steady raises every year)
I feel like if he changed jobs right now he would take a pay cut but in the long run he would probably end up making more.

I think you should be good then. Our mortgage payments are pretty high, but if we were without that we wouldn't have a problem living on that. We don't save as much as I would like to in order to upgrade to a larger house, which is why we are considering moving out of state...

No, I didn't know if you were talking about youself (DH)! I know my parents make much more then that, but I think that is very good money for someone in their 20s!

That's rough....But I think it is always easier to take a pay cut the younger you are, so if you are at a time when you could take a bit of a cut now for the sake of the future, I think it would be a good move.

I think it depends on a number of factors. How old is your DH? What does he do? How long did he go to school for? Do you work? And, finally, if he stays in this position, how much will he be making five years from now?
I think if your DH is in is twenties - $100,000 is a decent living definitely.

Depending on what field he is, whether or not he's planning to change careers and what the potential for moving up is - is what I would use to determine whether or not he should change jobs now.
A pay cut now for a job with more potential does not necessarily mean that he'll be doing better later on. I would lean towards no, especially in this job market.
