Do you cut the groom's cake at the reception??

I'm suprising my FH with a groom's cake at the reception so I want to get a different filling that the wedding cake. He hates chocolate and I was going to get him vanilla with strawberries in his cake since he's a little picky.. I don't want another cake with the same filling so I thought of changing it to chocolate but he won't eat it during the cake cutting ceremony -- what do I do??

i'm not help bc we did the grooms cake at the RD instead of the reception. but if i did it at teh reception, i'd probably do the filling he likes. that's what i did for my RD grooms cake

I'd say if it's the groom's cake, get what the groom likes I also like the idea of cutting it at the RD.

This. My FH loves Red Velvet cake. The groom's cake would definitely be this.

I'm def getting the Groom's cake to be what he wants, but I don't know what to do for the regular wedding cake..

I definitely don't want to spend all that money on the cake and bring it to the RD because no one would be able to see how cool it way.. even though not everyone will be able to eat it at the wedding

We cut his cake the reception right after we cut our wedding cake and feed it to eachother. His grooms cake was very different as far as fillings from our wedding cake (marble cake and baileys filling) and then he had both the wedding cake and his grooms cake.

Ohhhh, now I see what you mean. I misunderstood. Hmm....well, I would say if you don't want to cut the groom's cake at the RD, and since not everyone will be eating it at the wedding, maybe get a groom's cake on the smaller side for him and cut it at the reception. Then everyone can see how awesome it is, he will be happy with the flavor, and whatever is left over, you can take home and enjoy later?

Or are you able to get the wedding cake two different flavors?

To make your life easier, I would say get the flavors that you both want, cut both cakes, and enjoy :)
