feel like this whole wedding thing is a little unreal? Like maybe it's not really happening, like it's a dream or something? Just really not solid and concrete?
It's strange... Jeff and I have been together for 5 1/2 years. We first discussed spending our whole lives together 6 months into the relationship. We've been engaged for almost a year (actually, it will be exactly a year December 10th ) Despite all that (or perhaps becaues of it) it often feels like this is all just a little surreal that we actually have a date and are planning.
Or maybe it's because we still have almost two years to go, and so much can and will happen in two years, that I'm almost afraid to think of it as this definite absolute thing. It's so hard to think that far into the future... between then and now, I'll hopefully be finishing my MA and getting a real teaching job and probably meeting lots of new people and making new friends, and maybe losing touch with old friends, and... on and on.
Does anybody else here know what I mean? Or am I just insane? Am I the only one who feels this way?
Maybe it's just that I don't actually have anything booked or purchased yet and am still in the daydreaming phase... maybe once I book a hall and start spending money it will start to feel a little more solid.

Re: do you ever...
no I totally hear you, George and I will be together for 6 years in january and we are not getting married until july 07. Sometimes I worry that he will change his mind or that we are still so far away from it, its weird but I wish sometimes that I made the wedding in 06 but financially it wasnt going to happen, i think these feelings are totally normal

Re: do you ever...
I just worry if we are going to have the money...
I am stressing that I am booking people... when I don't have the money now to back it up.
I know (hopefully) I will have it then... I just stresses me out spending money that I don't even have yet???
Am I making sense... Like to put 2500 bucks on a hall that is going to cost you 20000 but you don't have the 20000 yet... I think thats a little stressful!

I think that makes perfect sense. Like, you know that as time goes on you can save a little from each paycheck, etc, but there's always that feeling of 'what happens if something cuts off the money supply? what if we suddenly have unexpected expenses?' that's the problem with this whole planning in advance thing... you never know what will happen.

I definately agree. Rich and I as alot of you know have been engaged since 2003 and we kinda just chilled with the whole wedding process until now. Lately we have been booking alot of vendors and its just been crazy im like ok wow i cant believe its only a year and a half away! I look at last year around christmas time how quickly it passed and im like this time next year wil be my last 'single' christmas! Its crazy how fast its approaching!!!

i can definately relate to what your feeling me and FH have been together for 7 years everyone says its been so long what took you guys so long but im 23 weve been together since i was 16 cant really get married then...so now that the wedding is happenening im actually kind of freaking out, not really believing its happenning and its crazy, i think its because we are all in the stages of booking halls and vendors, and it seems so far away im sure once the time flies by till be more real if im making any sense...

I agree with all of you!!
With Peter being in Iraq...I don't get to talk to him everyday. And sometimes because he's really tired..the e mails I get are kind of short...so especially when it comes that time of the month(which is when I start going bonkers) I start thinking..oh god does he still love me..does he still want to get married..what if he's falling out of love...
But then we get a normal conversation, and usually Aunt Flo is gone by then..and it all seems to be okay and I feel reassured!
Women are just very anal...detail oriented...and sometimes need to be constantly reminded of these things. Not to mention....when you are starting to plan and get in the real thick of things...we immerse ourselves in this..and sometimes forget...that our wedding planning..is like their football/baseball/or whatever respective sport watching. They kind of go in their own worlds and neglect us...but for some reason..while we may get sad..we don't think twice because we know they are enjoying themselves...So think of that too...they might be a little neglected during this time so maybe focus on that a little bit....I MEAN COME ON...MOST OF US ARE ON LIW ALL DAY!!
just keep things in perspective

Ug, it must be so hard to have him in Iraq. I hope he comes home safe (and soon).
You're right about the whole detail oriented thing, and the own world thing... I have to keep reminding myself that my term papers due in less than two weeks and my upcoming job hunt are far more important and immediate than a wedding that's almost two years away!

How long has he been in Iraq? What part of the military is he in? I give you sooo much credit Nina, I would be a wreck if George was over there, you seem like you have it all together. When does he get to come home?

Thanks ladies! You are all very sweet!
Well he was actually just a reservist..and his time was almost up...and they pulled him in a month before his contract was up.... He is in the Army...he has been there since June..and will be back this coming June. He should be getting a break in between for two weeks...but don't know when yet
But it will be okay..sometimes I'm a wreck..sometimes I think...wow..my toilets sure stay cleaner longer
but I'd much rather have him here to partake in my wedding madness!!

Re: do you ever...
i remember feeling that way!! when FH and i got engaged back in March...we put the deposit down on our hall, and it felt weird. Like it wasn't totally happening, since it was nearly 2 yrs. away from our wedding date!!
But over the summer, we gave them more $$ and booked flowers, photo/video, limos, etc. and when we put deposits on that, it certainly makes it feel more real.
For some reason, finally booking an officiant last week REALLY is making me feel like 'WOW!! This is truly gonna happen. We've booked the person who will pronounce us husband and wife!' I can't believe I'm closing in on the one year mark to our wedding...the days are going by FAST!!
