Hey girls. Dee reminded me that I never post on the '07 boards...
So, my sister is my MOH. I love her to death, but our tastes are really different and although she is completely polite about all the choices I've made so far (dress, invitations, etc), I feel like she's really not into them. She likes very formal, traditional sorts of things. She has expensive elegant taste, but I think she thinks my tastes are too modern (ie. she keeps telling me to register for really expensive formal china and when I tell her it's not my taste she says that I'll regret it in ten years). It's just frustrating that she's not completely on my side, but such is life...
Just wondering if anyone can relate.

My MOH and I have similar taste, but not the same. Dont worry about what anyone else says -- Not only does everyone have different tastes, but everyone does things differently. She probably doesnt even realize she's imposing when she says certain things to you.
I have to admit...when my friend got married back in May, she didnt register, she didnt do a lot of the normal wedding traditions, ect. and I kept pushing her to do them. I just didnt even realize that everyone does things that suits THEM. Moral of the story is....your way isnt always the 'right' way....its just what works for you. But sometimes its hard for others to realize that.
If you dont want formal china....dont get formal china. Get what you and FH love, because 10 years down the road, it isnt going to be your MOH or anyone else that has to live with it and use it....its going to be you. And only YOU know your taste the best.
And to be honest, many people's taste change over the years. So, that 'formal' 'fancy' stuff that your sister loves now....SHE might end up regretting it in 10 years too

welcome to the 07 board. I actually do have similar tastes as my MOH. If your & FH tastes are similar that's all that matters regarding what to register for. You know what you'll need & what you prefer in terms of style.

I have the same situation except I am the one with the traditional taste and my sister (MOH) is the one with the modern taste. My sister and I used to butt head when it came to things like this until I came to this realization: It's not that she's not on your side. She's just looking at things from her eyes (the only way she can) and she is probably looking out for you because she doesn't want to 'regret' things later on. That doesn't mean that you have to register for the formal china or things like that. She's just giving you a different perspective. As long as she respects your tastes and decisions once you have made them final.

My Future father in law took me out to lunch and told me-- 'This is your wedding....do what you want...Everyone will have opinions--but it's your decision! don't worry about what ohers think.'
I think that was the best advice he could have given me--
I now feel comfortable in my choices-- don't second guess-- you know what will make you happy-- go with it.

We didnt register for China at all!!! We dont want it! ANd when we do need it or want to use it we will go buy it. My MOH and i do have kind of the same taste, there are few things that we really differ on. SO I cant really relate to that. But ignore it, if you dont want or want something YOU are the only one that needs to like it

My MOH is my sister and a lot of the time we have completely different taste but when it comes to my wedding she is being completely supportive and is agreeing with everything. Besides it doesn't really matter to be what she thinks, what is important is what my FH and I think and as long as we are happy then everyone should be happy

My MOH is also my sister and we have really similar tastes. She's been super supportive about everything. She couldn't be with me when my BM and I picked the dresses, but was like, 'hey, I know you had to make a decision, and I have no problem with it!' My MOH is the best.

My MOH are my 2 sisters (one is LIW member jeanla4c)
We have different tastes, but I think we all respect it. They haven't come out and said they don't like something I like.
Me and MOH are totally different! We have totally different tastes in everything!

absolutely, my whole bp keeps picking out these hideous dresses- they like what's in style, I'm more traditional (and what's in style does not look good on them!!)- I keep trying to come up w/ a polite way of saying their taste ***** (IMO)

heh, I didn't ask anyone's opinion on the registry.... except for FH, of course.
Don't be concerend that your MOH has a different style from you. She may be under the impression that only traditional will remain 'a classic' 20 years from now, but MoMA is filled with counterpoints to that argument!
There are a lot of modern designs that are just as striking today as it was when it was designed 50 years ago! Like our flatware (designed in 1950's)!
My MOH is my BFF since we were 12. We both have similar taste, shop at the same stores, websites ect.

My MOH is my sister and are tastes are totally different. She is almost 10 years older than I am and she still treats me like I am 5 years old. She keeps trying to stick her 2 cents in more than I want her to. I just let it slide because as FH told me it is our day and not hers. He also told me that in her own twisted way she is trying to help and that is what I keep focusing on.
