Hi Gina!!

No you don't have to do it but I think most people will expect it. I would post on BHB asking anyone who DIDN'T do it how they went about it

you don't have to do anything you don't want to do.

We didn't do one. I felt it took up too much time.

as long as you walk around to greet all the tables at the reception, a receiving line is not necessary.

My grandmother told me the reason for the recieving line...(back in the day) is because many brides and grooms used to leave for their HM immediatly after the ceremony...the reception was just for the guests and was usually held at the bride's parents house.

i didn't do one, and I deeply regret it. We planned on visiting all the tables during the reception. Time went so quick and people were always pulling us away from it. we only got to visit 4 out of 14 tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've only been to 1 church wedding where a receiving line was done.

if you have a lot of time between the ceremony & reception, go for it. but if not, you may need every minute to take pics.

I think we're going to have one. We should have the time. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal if you skip it. As a guest I usually don't like it especially when I only know the bride or the groom and have to make small talk with the parents whom I've never met. It's always kinda awkward.

Honestly I think people expect it. Depending on how many people you have it really doesn't take that long and it really helps make sure you get everyone in!

I was going to say the same thing. I don't want to make your decision harder but we DID have ALOT of people who came to our ceremony that could not attend the reception.
Also we missed I think 3 or 4 tables at the reception and we only had 15!

I agree most people will expect it. But if you want to keep it short you and DH can just greet everyone - you dont have to have the parents and BM and MOH.

I agree with Laura...we didn't want to do one, but thankfully our priest was smarter than us and we did it. It was awesome because at the reception we got VERY busy and only did about 6 out of 10 tables.

We didn't have one, mainly because we didn't have the time and no one commented or notcied I think. We just went around to each table and spoke to everyone individually - I think it works out the best.
