Usually this is where the receiving line is done & then everyone waits outside for pics. Will you have one at your hall if you don't have one here. What is your reasoning for cutting it out?

I think people would like to say hi and congrats personally, especially if they are not going to your reception.

The rule of thumb is that you can cut out the receiving line if you and your new husband go around to each table and say thank you, and chat for a minute....I think the receiving line gets it over and done with in one quick flash then having to miss some of the reception, JMO

You don't have to have one. We did only because we invited A LOT of people to the church that were not invited to the reception.

The priest can say at the end of the ceremony that the bride and groom will not be having a receiving line and you may join them at the reception hall... something like that.

This is what I have read in a few places. You pretty much have to speak to everyone at some point during your day or they will be really put off. I think the best plan is to do the receiving line so you can enjoy your reception. If you go around to each table you might get stuck for a really long time chatting with people and miss out on a lot of dancing.

The same thing happened to us. We did not want one but one was formed.
